| Varsity Earns a 2-1 Victory Just 20 Seconds Before the Whistle The game against Madison will be remembered for its non-goal as much as for its goals. With only seconds remaining in the first half, Susie Lesniewski passed to Molly MacDonnell who passed to Katie Russell for the goal. However, the referee ruled that the goal was scored after time had expired in the half, even though no whistle was blown. :-( The Wildcats came out angry and strong in the second half, but Madison was first on the scoreboard with a goal off a penalty corner about 7 minutes into the half. Madison dominated much of the second half, but the Cats made some strong runs on offense near the end of the game, earning 5 penalty corners within the last few minutes of play. With just 3:04 remaining in the game, the Madison goalie saved Lesniewski's hard shot, Lesnewski ended up with the rebound after a scuffle, and passed it to Haili Hartman for the tying goal. Both teams then fought for possession, trying to avoid an overtime period. With only 20 seconds left in the game, the Wildcats were awarded another penalty corner, and Haili Hartman passed to Molly MacDonnell for the winning score!
This game will also be remembered as the "battle of the goalies". Madison's goalie had 7 saves, while Centreville's goalies totaled 8 saves (Carolyn Macek, 1st half, 5 saves; and Betsy McCracken, 2nd half, 3 saves). Every one of the Wildcat players had a strong game, and special mention should be made of Sasha Rocke, whose persistence kept the ball in the Wildcats possession throughout the end of the game.
